We got into a little email scuffle with this publicist over the weekend. Long story short, this particular publicist was ranting on us for not promoting his client’s track because we said it had too many plays already and because it premiered with a larger promo network. The truth is.. we don’t not support a track because it’s doing well already, because the artists is too established or because it premiered with a larger promo network. If a track is hot it’s hot, and we’ll show our love. But if two tracks are alike in quality and excitement, you very well know we’re promoting the one from the smaller indie artist. That’s just who we are as a platform and it just so happened there were hot tracks from smaller acts that came out this weekend.
As we grow though we fully understand that our brand will grow too. Many of the smaller indie acts we cover now may go on and cut a record with a household name artist or sign a major deal. Look at Marc E Bassy or Jarren Benton. We’ll still cover their music if it’s dope though. And regardless of such growth, we’ll always provide a means for the indies to get noticed because there has to be a brand out there that brings to light all of the great music flying under-the-radar. For instance, check out these three knocks below from a handful of emerging artists that we believe are on to big things…
◊ “Back It Up” – THEY. (Cabu Remix)
Take this track by Sydney based producer Cabu as a prime example of what we asserted above. Stack his THEY remix up against any well-known producers like esta or J-Louis and it holds it’s own. And Cabu has a fraction of the following of these other cats. It just goes to show you all you need is some creativity, technical skill and a laptop to make great content. That groove is a movie and this homie is solid. We know we’ll be keeping close..
◊ “Regular” – MAYZiN (prod. by RASCAL)
Mayzin The Messiah hit us on SoundCloud yesterday with a link to his new album “SOMETHING I WANTED” and woooo! Hot damn the homie got bars. Let us say one thing — there are ALOT of crusty hip-hop acts out there. A lot of pretenders that solely imitate what they hear on Datpiff and HotNewHipHop, rarely actually exploring true artistry. A lot of rappers, writers and producers that will spend more timing begging you for a repost than actually working on their trade. This homie MAYZiN right here is on to something. First off… his flow, content and delivery are all impressive. Secondly, he can evidently collaborate as this album features beats by guys like RASCAL, DANYAL & deDunamis — all strong producers. Throw all that together and you have a guy that’ll make waves in low tide.
Peep the full album here.
Let us tell you something about West Coast based producer / writer / performer domino. Not many artists bring this level of poetry to hip-hop and rhythm & blues. Always out to deliver a message through his music, domino is clearly in it for all of the right reasons. Plus, he knows how to collaborate and has a clan of people out west that respect him. Throw all that purpose together with a natural finesse and pretty soon you’ll be calling him just dom.
