It’s pretty tough to find emerging artists that are innovating within hip-hop these days. Most of the up-and-coming acts we’ve scouted fall short of originality, often imitating their favorite iconic rappers (i.e. Kendrick, Drake, etc) in everything from lyricism and production to style and swagger. We aren’t saying it’s a bad thing to emulate your idols, but if you actually want to stand out among the clutter you need to bring something fresh and authentic.
We spend 8+ hours a day sifting through music, gathering emerging artists we dig and studying these acts from sound to aesthetics. Most of what we see is more of the same, but every now and again we stumble upon an artist that is legitimately paving their own way. Plus, doing everything from writing to producing to performing on their own.
We compiled three of our favorite emerging, multi-faceted hip-hop artists into a short post below. Start bumpin’ these young homies’ music now before it’s too late. We are confident each of these guys will amass a sizable following and turn heads in this industry soon. And if you don’t believe us, well then take our interview with Russ as some sturdy proof.
Belmont based rapper / beat maker Caye first caught our attention last March (’15) with “Walk On Bye“, a summery hip-hop knock featuring Ronan Smith. Since then the talented teenager has been collaborating, improving his craft and rackin’ up plays like hotcakes. At just 18-years-old his flow and delivery are stand-out. If sea level is the playing field than the homie is standing on a mesa somewhere that’s about 500 meters above sea level, likely just having a good time and writing music. Aside from his abilities as a performer, his production is quite unique, often integrating caribbean sounds and other eclectic elements.
Peep his newest above dubbed “Miles”.
LA based croosh is 90 to 180 days away from blowing up. If you don’t believe us, then set a timer and report back to us. We’ve been covering the young’n for nearly a year now, witnessing whopping growth across the board — whether that be his beat making, bars or branding. His hooks are a movie and his swagger has us shook. Enough said. If you’re looking to read more about croosh, peep anyone of the 12+ articles we’ve written about him since last summer here.

First off, shout-out to Conrad Hsiang (aka PLC) for repping upstate New York like a true G. We don’t know too much about the 18-year-old singer / writer / producer, other than that he dropped this mellow jazz-hop number dubbed “Keep Me Right” back in September that was pretty sweet. We also know that there’s tremendous potential here. He’s young, has great ideas and seems like a humble dude that’s all about cookin’ up beats in his dorm room. Give him another year and watch this kid quadruple his following and drop some knocks.
