New York born 25-year-old singer, songwriter and producer Josh Tobias had an impressive coming out party last Labor Day after the release of his debut single “Beachside Lover“. The cool NuDisco R&B record was a staple of Summer for many, racking up hundreds of thousands of plays and garnering the support of countless blogs, admired artists and respected industry folk. Since then the highly sought after songwriter has been working behind the scenes with some larger known artists, writing music and developing his live show.
Being a strong proponent of ‘quality over quantity’, it’s been rumored JT has gone through roughly 8-12 tracks before identifying his Beachside Lover successor. In anticipation of this follow-up single (due in the coming weeks) and this forthcoming Summer 16′, fellow NYC mate Z.W. Dess composed a standout remix of BSL that stands as the perfect teaser track. Smooth, concise and shimmering, the PLAY IT LOUDER affiliated beat maker managed to preserve the integrity of the original while adding his own signature vibrancy.
When asked how he approached the remix, Z.W. Dess went on to say, “I wanted some organic sounds in there so I recorded myself banging a ruler against a desk and some sticks together, later organizing them into a nice rhythm. I also created a plucky synth that I thought worked well with the vocals and a smooth bass, while also using some thin gliding synths in the background and a marimba in the chorus”.
