We had a great conversation with Film Noir‘s Masego yesterday. The Virginia based producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist drove home one really important fact, that there is “a difference between an artist that kills it at the bars vs among artists.” Great music that gets respect from indie artists is often innovative music, sounds and styles that pushes the industry creatively forward. The innovative stuff always rises to the top.
There is no better example than Film Noir in general. The collective / label has grown immensely over time due to their roster of artists & producers that are creatively brilliant, and more importantly, forward thinking.
Earlier today, one of their co-founders Krs teamed up with Toronto’s Roy Wood$ on a super bouncy island R&B meets trap beat. It incorporates all sorts of tribal elements and future sounds making it a crisp summer knock.
