It’s been wayyyy too long since our last blog post so we felt pretty darn obligated to get something up and published. Although we’re moving away from the editorial a bit and rather focusing on creating music and hosting live events, we’ll still continue to curate.
After a hugely successful first annual Jadamix Special last Friday, we’re back out on the West Coast doing some seasonal mingling. There’s such great music industry energy out here that it’s tough to avoid traveling out west now and again. Plus, our first artist (Josh Tobias) is on the verge of releasing his follow-up single to BSL, so we figured it would be a good idea to get out to LA and begin seeding the fuckwithableness of this new track with industry folk.
On our down time we compiled a few of our favorite knocks of the week so far… peep em below!
♦ “Ain’t Going Nowhere” – Fredy V
You know it’s bound to be a fantastic day when you wake up to some dank new funk from the homie Fredy V. Released on Modern Funk platform / tastemaker channel Voyage Funktastique, “Ain’t Going Nowhere” is Fredy’s first single off his upcoming ‘It Takes A Village’ LP (dropping Fall 2016) and it’s got us bustin’ out a vicious wiggle-legged boogie. Produced by fellow Montreal based multi-faceted talent Anomalie, this track is pretty much a clinic in retro vibes, bringing together flawless execution of the core essentials of quality modern funk.
♦ “jazzblaster3000” – tessellated
In our opinion tessellated is one of a few producers who are winning in a space known as TrapHouseJazz, a quickly growing sub-genre that brings together classy jazz elements with the turn-up-ability of trap music. Although Masego may have coined the genre, tessellated seems to be holding his own while building up a stockpile of ammunition. Like “jazzblaster3000”, a brand new track from the homie that sounds like a John Coltrane original hijacked by a filthy drum kit and drenched in Jameson.
♦ “Next To You” – Flamingosis
Flamingosis gets us every damn time. This funk / disco sampled hip-hop he’s perfected is the epitome of Nu Cool sound. In our opinion, there’s no better producer on planet earth when it comes to delivering fun, inspiriting and infectiously danceable retro vibes. Anytime we queue up some new new Flamingosis, it’s a given we’ll be breaking out that boogie. Peep his newest above, “Next To You”, and tell us that doesn’t make you wanna doo-wop-hop down to the roller rink and synchronize skate with your loved ones.
